Mildred Louise Kuehl, 92, of Elkader, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at the Elkader Care Center, following a long illness.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elkport with Pastor Tom E. Martin officiating. Organist was Judy Koth and vocalist was Lee Lenth.
Burial followed in Mt. Harmony Cemetery, rural Garber. Casket bearers were Keith Koth, Larry Swenson, Norbert Butikofer, Carl Kuehl, Donald Muller and Gary Kuehl.
Friends called Sunday, at Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, and Monday at church.
She was born May 19, 1911, in Farmersburg Township, rural St. Olaf, Clayton County, the daughter of Henry and Sophia (Staack) Dahl. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center. Mildred received her education at the rural Hope School.
On June 5, 1935, she was united in marriage to John Kuehl, Jr. They farmed in Volga Township near Elkport until his death, Nov. 18, 1981. Mildred continued to live on the farm until moving to Elkader in 1993. She continued to be an active member of the congregation and WELCA of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elkport. On Oct. 22, 2003, she moved to the Elkader Care Center.
Mildred enjoyed farming, flowers, gardening and socializing with her friends. She delighted in her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Francis) Thurn of Edgewood; her son, Ronald (Mary) Kuehl of Alachua, Fla.; her grandchildren, Richard Thurn, of Edgewood and Michele (Steve) Von Handorf of Guttenberg; her great-grandchildren, Hannah, Abigail and Josef Von Handorf and her brother, Harold Dahl, of St. Olaf.
Preceding Mildred in death were her parents, her husband, John Kuehl, Jr.; and a sister, Gladys, who died in infancy.
