On Saturday morning, August 2d, 1890, occurred the death of Glen, little son of Mr. and Mrs. John Copeland, of this place, at the age of 3 years, 10 months and 18 days, and his death came so suddenly that the bereaved parents are stunned by the blow.

Little Glen was a favorite with all who knew him, and he will be sadly missed. A sweet little a year and a half old is left to comfort them in their sorrow.

Mr. and Mrs. Copeland have the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends in this great affliction.

The funeral was held in the M.E. church on Sunday and was largely attended; Rev. J. G. Whitford conducted the exercises. An abundance of beautiful flowers were arranged in a pleasing manner, and the grave was lined with flowers by loving hands.

Weep not for dearest Glen,

His gentle spirt has fled.

He sweetly sleeps with Jesus,

Among the silent dead.

The summons came to quickly,

To the dear one by our side,

And while our hearts were hopeful,

The little sufferer died.

Sweet bud of promise, early gone;

Torn from the parent helm,

The casket moulders in the earth,

But God preservers the gem.

Shed not a tear of sorrow,

Around his silent tomb,

Think what a lovely flower,

Has gone to heaven to bloom.

And now we’ve bade our last good bye,

To he we loved so dear.

May God enable us to bear,

This sad bereavement here.

Mr. and Mrs. John Copeland desire to express their sincere gratitude to their friends and neighbors for the many acts of kindness tendered them during the illness of their little son, Glen. All their loving deeds and sympathy will ever be remembered.
