Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Jan. 1890.
Miss Lizzie Williams, the subject of this short sketch, was born at Perry, Wyoming county, New York, Nov. 12th, 1831, and came west to Wisconsin with her parents about 45 years ago. About ten years ago she was stricken with that terrible malady, insanity, and since that time has been an inmate of the asylum at Independence, where she died Saturday, December 11th, 1890 (paper says 1890 but should read 1889). Deceased was a member of the Baptist church, and while among our people enjoyed the friendship of all who knew her. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Downie, of this place, and a sister at Boulder City, Colorado, to mourn her death. The funeral took place from the east side church at Elkader on Sunday last, and was quite largely attended, although the weather was very inclement. Rev. G. N. Kenniston officiated.
Note: A card of thanks was signed by Mrs. Ruth Downie and family.
