Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 2, 1963, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elkader, for Arthur Crary, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Luke Striegel officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph cemetery.
Pallbearers were Vincent Stence, James Stence, Michael Stence, Jack Stence, John M. Wiley, and Glen Probert.
Arthur Edwin Crary, son of Judge and Mrs. Oliver W. Crary, pioneer settlers of Clayton County, was born March 9, 1889, in Farmersburg Township, Clayton County, Iowa, and died at the McGregor hospital, Wednesday, Oct. 30, 1963.
Mr. Crary attended high school at Cedar Falls, and chose farming as his vocation. He worked and lived in Montana as a young man for a year and a half, returning to the farm of his parents five miles east of St. Olaf, which was his home until 1948 when he and Mrs. Crary moved to Elkader, where they resided until the death of Mrs. Crary. For the past year and a half he made his home with his son, Edward and family, who live on his farm.
Mr. Crary was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elkader. He was married to Catherine Stence at the St. Joseph's rectory in Elkader, May 11, 1926.
Mr. Crary was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, April 15, 1962; five brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his son, Edward Crary, St. Olaf, and a daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Kathryn) Leuchtenmacher, Elkader; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Avery I. Crary, Gardenia, Calif.
