Harold Henry Jarms was born to Henry Jarms and his wife, Hattie Engelhardt, on July 9, 1904, in Monona Township, Monona, Iowa.

On August 14, 1904 he was baptized by the Rev. G. F. Braun of Farmersburg. He was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona by the Rev. Otto Wappler on February 24, 1918.

He received the usual elementary grade school education in the Monona Township schools.

On March 5, 1932 he was united in marriage with Helen Jacobson at the Lutheran parsonage at Galena, Ill. Their union was blessed with five children, two sons and three daughters.

Harold was engaged in farming all his life, first east of Monona, and then on their farm north of Monona. In November, 1969, he retired from farming and together with his wife moved to their home in Monona.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Monona all his life. He served his church as a trustee and on the church council a number of terms. He also served in the Monona community on various boards and enterprises. He served on the board of the Monona Coop and as its secretary; on the creamery board and as its secretary. He was township clerk for a number of years, was a member of the Monona Farmers Fire Company and a director of the Allamakee County Farm Bureau.

In 1968 he suffered a heart attack and has been in declining health since that time. Last December he suffered a stroke and was taken to the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien (Wis.), and on Jan. 2, 1974, he was admitted to the Great River Care Center in McGregor. He grew seriously ill last Sunday evening and was again taken to the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien (Wis.) where he died Monday morning August 5, at six o'clock. He attained the age of 70 years and 26 days.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; three daughters: Betty, Mrs. Robert Kiesau; Joan, Mrs. Harold Vorwald, Monona; Marlys, Mrs. Robert Frye, Poway, Calif.; a son, Donald, serving in the United States Army at Oslo, Norway; a sister, Dorothy, Mrs. Giles Blietz of McGregor, and a brother, Harvey, of Postville, and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, William Harold, Jan. 21, 1945; his parents and two sisters, Marie and Margarite, Mrs. Joe Geraghty.

Services were held Thursday, August 8, 1974 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, with Rev. Fred Darnauer officiating. Mrs. Robert Evans served as organist.

Honorary pallbearers were Alvin Johanningmeier, Lloyd Bacon, George Balekos Sr., Selmer Hellen, Ben Lestina, Page Dull and Gilbert Rose.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Thompson, Robert Ball, Edmund Ryan, Robert Marovets, Vern Thompson, Lyman Ferguson, Elmer Knockel and Wm. Moses.

Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery.
