Elkader Register, Fri., 20 Oct. 1882.
An accident happened on the Volga branch, near Elkport, Monday evening, by which an old resident of Jefferson township lost his life.
An extra train was backing up the line about a quarter of a mile west of Elkport, and it struck and ran over Godfried F. Clefisch, cutting off both of his legs, from the effects of which he died in about six hours. It seems that he had been at work near Elkport, and was walking on the track, but did not see the train. Mr. C. was 66 years of age, and resided in Jefferson township about two miles from Guttenberg. He was an old resident, and had a host of friends who will greatly regret his untimely death.
