Elkader Register, Fri., 14 April 1882.
Died- The subject of this short sketch was born in Pennsylvania in 1812, and died in Elkader, April 11th, 1882, of old age and general debility; aged 70 years.
Of his early life but little is known, excepting that he removed to Ohio in 1845, and in the spring of 1848 came to Iowa, settling in Pony Hollow, this township, and resided there until a few years ago, when he came to Elkader. Mr. R., was married to Miss Elizabeth Russell in 1837, and by her had 7 children, 5 boys and 2 girls, of whom two boys, Edward and Lincoln, and two girls, are now living. His wife died some seven years ago.
The deceased had many friends, all of whom will greatly regret his death. Always honest, upright and straight-forward in his dealings, he had the confidence and respect of all who knew him. His funeral occurred on Wednesday at 2 o'clock, his remains being laid away to their final rest in the cemetery on the East side. Rev. J. S. McIntyre officiated.
