Elkader Register, Fri., 4 Mar. 1881. Guttenberg Gatherings column.

The gloomy shadow of death has hung heavily over our town the past week, and robbed three homes of their loved ones. Mr. Koester, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of our town died on the 27th ult, after an illness of but a few days.

(Note: Bernard Koester is buried in St. Mary's cemetery. The DOD on gravestone looks more like 2/28/1881, than 2/27/1881)
