CAROLINE HEIDEN
Mrs. Caroline Heiden was born August 1st, 1855, in Pommern, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Staade.
As an infant she was brought to God in baptism, implanted in the name of the Triune God and made a child of God and an heir of the kingdom of heaven.
In 1864 when she was but nine years of age she made the long and arduous trip across the water with her parents, coming to America and settling with them on a farm in Read township, Clayton Centre, Iowa. In this new land she continued as a child of God being instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Clayton Centre.
She remained in the home of her parents until 1872 when she was united in marriage to Mr. John Heiden, by the same pastor who had also instructed and confirmed her. Together with her husband they now lived on a farm in Read township until 1895, when they moved to a farm in Wagner township. Here they continued to farm together until December 11, 1899, when her husband died. Mrs. Heiden continued with her children on this farm until February 1, 1907, when she sold the farm and retired to her home in Farmersburg. This continued to be her home until her death on April 3rd, 1935, at 3:30 in the morning,” per her obituary
For the past several years she has been in constant declining health and a month ago was confined to her bed with a broken hip. Her death was caused by old age and complications. She reached the age of 79 years, eight months, and three days.
She was the mother of seven children, four having preceded her in death: Mrs. Minnie Schmidt, Mrs. Anna Wilke, Lena, a baby which died in infancy, and Mrs. Elsie Strien. She leaves to mourn, her three children, Mr. Fred Heiden of Manteca, Calif., Mrs. Ida Olvis of Luana, Mr. John Heiden of Farmersburg; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Wedemeyer of Luana and Mrs. Ida Husse of Holstein, Iowa.
She was a member of our St. John’s Lutheran church and a charter member of the Frauen Verein.
May she rest in peace and the eternal light shine.
