Elkader Register, Fri., 4 Jan. 1884.

On Friday, the 28th ult. (1883), all that was mortal of James McGuire was laid away in the tomb. The funeral was conducted by the Masonic lodge of Garnavillo, and at 12 o'clock the procession headed by the Masons and OddFellows moved to the Lutheran church in Garnavillo, where after an impressive sermon by the Rev. G. M Porter, on the subject of "Immortality", Mr. J. F. Thompson, of Elkader, on the part of the Masons, after giving a short history of the deceased brother's life, made the following remarks:
