Funeral services were held for Leo Steiert, 86, Wednesday, July 3, 1996, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona. Celebrants were Fr. John Moran and Fr. Cletus LaMere. Pallbearers were grandchildren: James Steiert, Joseph Koenigs, Dr. Michael Mrochek, Patrick Mrochek, Ross Martin and Scott Martin. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Leo Steiert, son of Louis and Adeline (Blietz) Steiert, was born October 14, 1909, in rural Monona, Iowa. He graduated from Monona High School in 1927. Leo was united in marriage to Florence LaMere on September 18, 1931, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, McGregor. She died October 13, 1981. On September 17, 1982, Leo married Helen Martin at the Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona. He retired from farming in 1973. Leo was a substitute mail carrier for 31 years. Leo Steiert died Saturday, June 29, 1996, at the Prairie Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; two daughters, Shirley Mrochek of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Patricia Koenigs of McIntire; two sons, Lynn Steiert of Mankato, Minn., and John Steiert of Springfield, Mo.; one step-son, Bill Martin of Marshalltown; four grandsons, 12 granddaughters; two step-grandsons; one step-granddaughter; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Larraine Klingeman of Monona.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Florence; and a brother, Gerald.
