Services for Martha Bugenhagen, 89, were conducted by Pastor Lloyd Helland at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Guttenberg.

Mrs. Bugenhagen died Tuesday, April 12, 1994 at the Guttenberg Care Center following a brief illness.

Burial was in Guttenberg City Cemetery with the following pallbearers: John Hohensee, Mark Hohensee, Tom Rodenberg, David Meyer, Jeff Rodenberg and Justin Clossen.

Visitation was at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home.

Martha Rodenberg Bugenhagen was born June 27, 1904 on the family farm near Guttenberg, a daughter of Charles and Anna (Walter) Backes. She received her education from the local school system, was a homemaker and worked at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital for many years. On Nov. 27, 1929 she was married at St. John Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, to Albert Rodenberg, who died Nov. 4, 1955. On Feb. 8, 1969, she married Edwin Bugenhagen in Cedar Rapids, and they lived in Monona until he died on Aug. 6, 1986.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Marian (Willard) Hohensee of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Norma (Charles) Butters of Marion and Mrs. Neva (John) Crawford of Washington, Iowa; two sons, Orville (and Inge) Rodenberg of Rochester, N.Y., and Harold (and Helen) Rodenberg of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one sister, Lydia Bugenhagen; and six brothers, John, Ervin, Aldo, Albert, Arnold and Ernest.
