John H. Friederich, 90, of Guttenberg died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002 at the Guttenberg Care Center.
Services were conducted by Rev. Harold McMillin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, with burial in Guttenberg City Cemetery. Casket bearers were Mark Rolfe, John Berns, John Mitts, Burnell Blockhaus, Otis Blockhaus and Milo Rolfe. Honorary bearers were Gary Blockhaw, Scott Blockhaw, Lee Rolfe, Allen Rolfe and Harlan Reyerson.
Visitation was Friday at the Tuecke- Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, and before services at the church.
John Henry Friederich was born Thursday, March 30, 1911, in rural Elgin, son of John and Cecelia (Lance) Friederich. John attended country school and farmed with his family for many years.
On Oct. 22, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mayme Schutte at St. Paul's Church in Guttenberg. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, building wood projects and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Mayme, of Guttenberg; two daughters, Janan (Royce) Hansel of Elkader and Joyce Meyer and friend, Howard Bakken of Decorah; one son, Harlan Friederich Sr. of St. Olaf; one sister, Rose West of Elkader; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sharon K.; one granddaughter, Tina Klink; six sisters, Ina, Florence, Alice, Martha, Ella and Clara, and one brother, Henry.
