A dear father went home. It was John Martin Eberhardt. His cradle stood in the old country. There the departed saw the light of this earthly world March 9, 1845, on the other side of the Atlantic. Mr. Eberhardt has been baptized and has made the profession of faith at his Confirmation day. He grew up and in 1880 he came to this land of Old Glory. He became a settler in the state of Iowa.
In 1886 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Wilhelmina Landt of Luana. The young couple made their home at Luana. This union was blessed with nine children, two dying in infancy. Deceased leaves: Tilly, Mrs. John Waterman of Forman, N.D.; Louis, Read township; Milly, Mrs. Herman Schlee, Edgewood, Iowa; Martin, Roxbury, Washington; Henry and Ida, Forman, N.D.; John, West Union, Iowa; together with sixteen grandchildren.
He had been in Ill health for almost two years. The end came Saturday, August 7, at 1 o'clock. Departed had reached the age of 81 years, 4 months and 29 days.
Interment was made in the old cemetery of the Zions Lutheran church at Clayton Center, Rev. Wm. Wuestenberg officiating.
