Frozen to Death
A man by the name of Michael Sullivan was yesterday morning found dead. An inquest was held upon the body, which resulted in a verdict "That Michael Sullivan came to his death by freezing, while in a state of intoxication, as the jurors verily believe."He was a man of about [either 33 or 35] years old, had no family, lived alone in a shanty east of Sperry's new building, and was of intemperate habits. The weather being very cold early on Monday morning, H.B. George though he would call at Mike's shanty, where he found him frozen and dead.
He was cautioned by Mr. George on Saturday last against drinking, telling him his danger of being frozen, to which he remarked that he would drink just when, and as much as he pleased, at all events. Fearing the result of his drinking, Mr. George requested several dealers to not let him have whisky.
