Died in Poweshiek County, Iowa, on Sabbath afternoon, July 21st, Mrs. Carrie M. Beatty, wife of W.J. Beatty, in her 21st year.
Thus, and after but four months of wedded life, the young bride was called to part with a sorrow-stricken husband, and leaves a circle of relatives and friends to mourn her early departure.
The fatal disease, consumption, rapidly ran its course. But she was a child of the covenant, and had found refuge in the arms of the everlasting love. When it became apparent that death was inevitable her shrinking spirit gazed earnestly in to eternity and was for a while disturbed at the thought of entering upon the realities of that unseen world. But as the days and weeks wore on (with alternations of “better and worse”) her apprehensions gave way her fears left and she became ever desirous for the hour of her release. When that hour came she said to those who gathered to her bedside. “This is death” “Meet me in Heaven”.
To her mother, Mrs. E. Marshall of Hopkinton, she sent a message of endearment and love, “Tell mother to kiss me in Heaven.” When she could no longer speak, with her finger she pointed upwards. Thus she passes away.
She had been a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church for five years. She was characterized by a very gentle and amiable disposition and by an upright and conscientious life. Jesus, we may confidently trust, received her departing spirit and took her home to his Father’s House. To the bereaved husband and mourning friends, does not that life and death plainly say: “Mourn not as those who have no hope.” She has gone home.
