Riley Steele
Amos Riley Steele was born on March 1, 1861, and passed away at his home, three miles north of Edgewood, Iowa on Wednesday evening, July 21, 1920, at the age of 69 years, 4 months and 20 days. In the year 1887 he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Mitchell and to them were born three children: Judson of Philadelphia, PA.; Mrs. Ethel Middleton, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa: and Kames at home, Mrs. Steele preceeded him in death by seven years. Besides his children, there remain to mourn for him, his aged father, Herman Steele of Edgewood, Iowa: one brother, Guy of Edgewood, Iowa: and two sisters, Mrs. Lester Young of Manchester, Iowa; and Mrs. Bert Shepherd of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and other more distant relatives. But the mourners are not only found among his relatives for he had a large number of friends. He had lived for many years in the vicinity of the place where he died and he enjoyed the confidence and friendship of all who knew him. He was honest and generous, always willing to do a good turn, and his passing leaves a vacant place in the fellowship of many.
the funeral services according to his desire were simple in character. It was conducted at his home by Rev. S.C. Bretnall on Friday afternoon, July 23rd. Many friends gathered and beautiful flowers told of grief and sympathy for his loved ones in their sorrow. The body was laid beside that of his wife in the Edgewood Cemetery.
