Manchester friends of Mrs. Minnie Copeland, sympathize with her in the death of her mother, Mrs. William Schurman, who died of apoplexy, while alone at her home near Strawberry Point.
The Mail Press of last week contained the following account of Mrs. Schurmans death:
" The community was shocked Monday morning by the sad news of the death of Mrs. William Schurman, who dies at her home southeast of the town of apoplexy.
She was at home alone when death came, Mr. Schurman having gone to town to do some trading. She was in her usual health and had done all her mornings work and was sitting down crocheting some lace when death overtook her. She fell from her chair with her work under her and the crochet hook made a slight wound in her forehead as she fell.
"Mary Amling Schurman was born in New York City, February 14, 1856, being 57 years, 10 months and 1 day of age. She moved with her parents to Iowa and settled at Elkport, Iowa. In 1873 she was united in marriage to William Schurman of Guttenberg, Iowa, and to this union were born thirteen children, two dying in infancy and one at fiftenn years of age. The living are as follows: six sons, John and Frank of Edgewood, Iowa, and Eddie, Louie, Joe, Gustie of Strawberry Point, Iowa, four daughters, Mrs. Nora Smith of Edgewood, Iowa, Mrs. Anna Hall of Lamont, Iowa, Mrs. Minnie Copeland of Ames, Iowa, and Miss Lizzie Schurman, of Santa Monica, California. All were here to attend the funeral except Lizzie.
She is also survived by five brothers and one sister, Frank and Fred Amling of Elkport, Iowa, and John Amling of Seattle, Washington, and one sister, Lizzie Krabbenhoft, of Goldfield, Nevada, and eight grand-children are also left to mourn her death.
Funeral services were held in the Catholic church Wednesday forenoon conducted Rev. Father Hartigan. Internment took place in Strawberry Point Cemetery.
