Donald Henry Schug, 92, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Community. He was born on February 25, 1923, on the family farmstead south of Strawberry Point. He was the son of Carl P. and Theresa A. (Asmus) Schug.

Donald attended country schools and graduated from Strawberry Point High School. He then turned his interest into farming and the school system.

On June 8, 1944, Donald was united in marriage to Irene Skibbe at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point. Three children were blessed to this union. Donald was a lifelong resident of Strawberry Point. He farmed and continued to drive school bus before retirement.

Donald was a sports hunter, an avid trout fisherman, and enjoyed playing cards. He was loved by his sons and grandchildren; and adored by his great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Gary (Carol) Schug of Waukee, and Harold (Barb) Schug of Rowley, six grandchildren, Jeffery (Jamie) Schug, Michael Schug, Adam Schug, Darcy (Jamie) Duart, Denise (Brian) Morey, and Austin Schug; and seven great-grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his parents; a daughter, Gwendolyn; one brother, Herman Schug, and a sister, Luetta Puffett.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point. Officiating: Rev. Jim Adix

Visitation: Noon until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, at the Church prior to the funeral.

Interment: Cass Township Cemetery – Strawberry Point, Iowa

Music: Elle Blobaum

Casket Bearers: (Grandchildren) Jeffery Schug, Michael Schug, Adam Schug, Austin Schug, Jamie Duart, Brian Morey

Honorary Bearers: Darcy Duart, Denise Morey, Jamie Schug

Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point is assisting the family.
