ELKADER, Iowa -- Dorothy A. Hemby, 57, of Gardena, Calif., formerly of the Garber, Elkport and Elkader areas, died Sunday morning, Oct. 11, 1987, at her daughter's home at Grinnell after a long illness.Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, with burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, both in Elkader. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader.
Mrs. Hemby was born Sept. 23, 1930, in LaSalle, Ill. She was a secretary for the Ascension Lutheran Church and schools at Los Angeles for the past several years, before her illness.
Surviving are a son, David of Elkader; three daughters, Mrs. Gary (Pamela) Stevens of Grinnell, Mrs. Dennis (Rozalie) Clark of Elkader and Sheryl Kainz of Gardena; nine grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Kepper of Sheridan, Ill.; and two sisters, LaVonne Phillips of Indiana and Mrs. John (Judith) Allen of Gardena.
