At Garnavillo, On Monday, September 18th, 1871, after a long sickness, Mr. D.H. Meyer, aged about 60 years.
One of Garnavillo’s most influential citizens has been called away to his final home. He was a good man; a true Christian and an honored member of society.
We tender our heartfelt sympathy to his widow, his orphaned children, and his host of friends that he gathered around him in his earthly pilgrimage. They will miss his smiling face, and sadness and solicitude will take the place of former happiness. But quench your sorrow and dry your tears, and partake of that comfort that’s true Christian only can appreciate. The day is not far distant, when you will be called from the valley of tears and join your father, husband and friend in that other sphere, which knoweth no sorrow. And keep your house in order, that when you arrive at the termination of this life, you may be allowed to exclaim; Oh Lord, now let thy servant depart in peace, for he has soon thy salvation.
