Robert M. Ensign was born in New York state, Sept. 23rd, 1816, and died at Volga Jan. 27th, 1905.

Mr. Ensign married Eliza Barber at Stafford, N.Y. Six children were born to them. Fremont and Frank, their two sons, were taken from them by death.

Mrs. Smith, of Arlington, Mrs. Whitford and Mrs. St. John, of Volga, with Mrs. Mira Clark were all here to attend the funeral.

Mr. Ensign was a miller by trade and came to Iowa in 1854, was the miller here for a number of years and then built a mill for himself at the head of Hewitt Creek.

He lived to the good old age of 88 years and was always an honest, kind citizen with the respect of the whole community.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the M.E. church, Rev. Elwick preaching the discourse and the remains laid away with those gone before.

The family wish to thank all those who have been so kind to them in this sad trouble.
Mrs. Ensign and family
