Died at the residence of her father, near Clayton, on the morning of the 19th, inst., of Peritonitis, Mary Grinnell, aged 26 (maybe 25) years .
Painful, sad, indeed is our task in recording the death of Mary, so gifted, so pure and so beloved. There is not, cannot be, any comfort in the world for the bereaved parents and friends. Their pride, the ornament of their home circle, the esteemed of all who knew her has passed away form earth, never more to be seen by mortal eyes. Let the tears coarse down the cheek, for in them there is a tribute of that love which your bore her; weep on, for in that there is the only relief from that gloom and sorrow which crushes the heart, and sends us down into that silent grave into which she has preceded us. Mourn, ye friends, for one of earth’s noblest of women has been taken from among us. No more will the old homestead re-echo with her musical laughter; no more will she do those daily duties which in life, also so arduously performed; no more shall society find her amiable, ever-pleasing presence. A void is left, which to them who best knew her, cannot be filled. As an old friend of the deceased we extend our heart-felt sympathy to her sorrowing friends.
