At her home near St. Olaf, Thursday night, June 25th, occurred the death of Mrs. Wm. Koss of dropsy, after an illness of several years.
Martha Holverson was born in Norway, Dec. 28, 1834, and came to Wisconsin in 1850 and in 1851 came to Clayton county, where she has resided until death released her of her suffering.
On July 5, 1857 at Prairie du Chien, Wis., she was married to Wm. Koss, who preceded her to the grave about two years.
To Mr. and Mrs. Koss were born thirteen children, of whom twelve survive, three sons and nine daughters. They are A.W. of Orchard, Nebr., Albert of Mexico, Mo., and George at home; Mrs. Rosa Risch, of Turtle Lake, Wis.; Mrs. Martha Tetrow of St. Olaf; Mrs. Lillie Gleason of Chicago; Mesdames Lucy and Hattie Wolter and Clara Petsche, of Guttenberg, Mrs. Cora Ohlendorf of Remsen, Iowa; Mrs Millie Webber of St. Olaf and Miss Mary at home. She is also survived by one brother, Lars Hulverson, of Wagner twp. and a sister in Wisconsin.
The funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church at Elkader on Sunday morning last, Rev. J.F. Reilly officiating, and was attended by a large number of the old friends and neighbors of the family. All the children were present except Albert and Mrs. Risch. The interment was postponed until Monday afternoon in order that some of the relatives could be present and it was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.
