Clayton County Register, Thur., 28 Feb. 1929.

Mrs. Reka Church (nee Kluth) was born Feb. 2, 1869 in Giard township. She was baptized during infancy and confirmed in 1884 by Rev. Seiffert from Clayton Center.

She received her early education in a rural school in Giard township and her active life was spent on a farm with her parents. She was married to James Church in 1901 and to this union two daughters were born: Mrs. Genevieve Shellady, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. Greta Cochrin, Iowa City, Iowa.

Surviving her are two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Wm. Mann, Langford, S.D., Mrs. Henry Bruns, Monona, Iowa, and Ernest Kluth of Farmersburg, Iowa; also two grandchildren, Mary Joan Shellady and James Perry Cochrin. Her husband preceded her in death by 23 years, since which time she has made her home in Farmersburg, educated her children in our school and sent both through college.

Mrs. Church was an industrious worker as a dressmaker, a good provider and one respected and loved by a wide circle of friends.

She had been in failing health for a few years and recently decided to submit to an operation at Postville, Iowa, the benefits expected were a disappointment and she went with her daughters to an Iowa City hospital, where she was a patient until the end came late Wednesday evening, December 26, 1928, at an age of 59 years, 10 months and 14 days. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at her late residence at 12:30 and at St. John's Lutheran church at 1 o'clock. Rev. Ave'Lallemant conducted the services.

The casket bearers were: Walker D. Shellady, Lee Cochrin, Ernest Kluth, Henry Bruns, Lester and Gaylord Oelke.

The flower bearers were: Mrs. Chas. Strein, Mrs. Berth Fox, Mrs. Will Fuelling and Mrs. Arno H. Oelke.

The Farmersburg Choir rendered several fitting songs, one of which was "Rock of Ages" as had been requested by the departed.

Burial was made in the home cemetery beside her husband, where she was borne by a large gathering of sorrowing friends. She was of a jovial disposition and with a pleasant greeting for all and will be greatly missed by those who enjoyed her acquaintance.-- Contributed.
