Obituary of One of This County's Earliest Pioneers Who Died At His Home in Colesburg March 11, '09.
Robert Bruce Flenniken, son of John N. and Elizabeth (Grooms)Flenniken, was born in Greene County, Pennsylvania, August 28th, 1830, and departed this life March 11, 1909, aged 78 years, 6 months and 11 days.
He came to Iowa in 1852 when a young man 22 years of age, and was married to Margaret Brown March 27, 1856. To them were born two children, Mary Alice, deceased, and John Franklin residing at Edgewood, Iowa.
The deceased was a kind, loving husband and father, always looking after the welfare and comforts of his family. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and son, two grandchildren and also one brother, S.W. Flenniken of Colesburg, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. G.W. Kennedy of Thornton, Iowa, besides a large circle of relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held at the home Sunday at one'oclock p.m., conducted by Rev. Hirsh, and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Brown Cemetery.
