Funeral services for Lee William Meyer, 17-year-old son of Mrs. Dolores Meyer, Elkader, were held at Peace United Church of Christ Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Clayton Center.
Rev. Alvin Volle, pastor, officiated.
Lenora Mae Anderson, accompanied by Jean Welsh at the organ, sang "God Understands" and "I Am a Stranger Here, Heaven is My Home".
Meyer, a senior in Central Community High School, was cleaning a rifle at his home Tuesday evening, March 7, when the weapon discharged - the bullet striking the young man in the head. Death was instantaneous.
Lee William Meyer was born May 21, 1949, at Elkader and was a son of Eldo Louis and Dolores Sabann Meyer. On July 5, 1949, he was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, by Rev. John Zerhusen. He was confirmed at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, April 7, 1963.
He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Judith Louise.
Surviving are his mother, one sister, Mrs. James (Rena) Malek, Waterloo; one half-sister, Mrs. Charles (Shirley) McGinnis, Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; two half-brothers, Neil Meyer, Froelich, and Bruce Meyer, Chicago, and one nephew, Jay Malek.
Pallbearers were Harlan Hedeman, Gerald Nesteby, Emmett Whalen, Sam Tolcou, John Miehe and Harvey Kuehl.
