FRED BAARS

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 18, 10:30 a.m. at the Witt funeral home for Fred (Fritz) Baars, with the Rev. Robert Jacobs officiating.

Burial was at Hillcrest cemetery, Volga.

Pallbearers were Melvin Scott, Leroy Cords, Adolph Elvers, Lester Stahl, Milton Klink and George Behn.

Fred Charles Baars, son of Henry and Augusta Adam Baars, was born in Highland Township near Volga City, Iowa, on November 17, 1890, and died November 15, 1961, at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arno Gottschalk, Elkader, where he had made his home for the past 20 months.

Mr. Baars spent his early life on the family farm obtaining his education in the rural schools near his home.

For two years he lived with his uncle in Farmersburg where he learned he blacksmithing trade. After this he returned and with his brother, Henry, continued to operate the home farm, until they sold the farm, moved to Osborne, and there operated the general store for a year. After this they sold the store and Fred returned to his blacksmithing in Osborne, making his home with Mr. and Mrs. Miles Scott. For 36 years this was his life and through his skilled service had made a host of friends. His health forced him to discontinue his trade 20 months ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

He is survived by one sister, Carrie, Mrs. Arno Gottschalk, and a niece and nephew.

We wish to express our sincere thanks to our relatives, friends and neighbors for memorials, flowers and expressions of sympathy in the recent loss of our death brother. There will always remain with us a precious memory.
