For many years he was treasurer of Sperry township school district and also served several terms on the city council.
His parents, three brothers and one sister have preceded him in death.
He is survived by one brother, Fred C. Baars, and one sister, Mrs. Arno (Carrie) Gottschalk, both of Elkader, a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Blake and Gill chapel with L. H. Brandt of Garnavillo officiating. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery, Volga.
