St. Olaf- Burton Glesne Thorson, son of Theodore and Ava Thorson, was born on September 10, 1919 in Waverly, Iowa.
Shortly after his birth he was baptized into the name of the Triune God. At the age of 5 he moved with his parents to St. Olaf, where he attended both public and religious school. After he completed the prescribed course of religious instruction he was confirmed in the Lutheran Church by the Rev. S. J. Strandjord.
Burton graduated from Elkader High School in 1938. He completed Junior College at Elkader and attended two quarters at Ames.
He was united in marriage to Clara Will on January 19, 1956. He continued to farm until his death on July 28, 1976.
He leaves to mourn his death, his wife Clara; his parents; and three step-children, Mrs. Donald (Margene) Ockenfels, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Maurice (Doris) Schultz, St. Olaf, Daryl Will, Winter Springs, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Vern (Evelyn) Butson, Tracey, Minn.; seven grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
Burton lived to be the age of 56 years, 10 months and 18 days.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., July 31, 1976, at Norway Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member. Officiating was Pastor Robert Henriksen.
Music at the services was provided by Don Wold. Organist was Mrs. Walter Rugland.
Pallbearers were Roy Engelhardt, Harvey Bush, Craig Embretson, Don Houg, Ervin Rugland and Richard Orivis.
