Mrs. John Miller Died at Ionia at 93 Years of Age

Mother Of 12 Children. There Are 35 Grand and 59 Great Grandchildren, and One Great Great Grandchild

IONIA: Mrs. John Miller passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charley Faber, on Wednesday afternoon, December 11, 1935, aged 93 years, 11 months and 11 days.

Wilhelmina Meyer was born in Germany, December 31st, 1841. When eleven years of age she with her parents came to America, locating in Clayton County, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.

In 1859 she was united in marriage to John Miller of Clayton County. Twelve children came to bless this union. Her husband and three children have preceded her in death, Henry Miller, Lena Harnisch and Mary Klinkenberg. Those living are Mrs. Minnie Klinkenberg and Fred Miller of Farmersburg, Iowa, John Miller, Mrs. Bertha Dickinson [sic] and Mrs. Dora Frederic [sic], all of Emmetsburg, Mrs. Louise Schmidt of St. Olaf, Iowa, Mrs. Anna Kohle [sic] of Humboldt, South Dakota, Wm. Miller of Monona and Mrs. Martha Faber of Ionia, Iowa. These with one sister, Mrs. Louise Sickel, of Farmersburg, thirty-five grandchildren, fifty-nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild are left to mourn the departure of a wonderful mother, sister and grandmother.

In 1929 Grandma Miller came to Ionia to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Faber. On Wednesday morning, December 11, 1935, she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never rallied, loving hands could not prolong her stay and she fell peacefully asleep December 11, 1935.

Funeral services were held in the National Lutheran Church in Clayton County, her pastor Rev. Karsten, of Alta Vista officiating and burial was made in the National churchyard. Six of her grandsons carried her to her last resting place, Arnold Faber, John Miller, Henry Harnisch, Vern Miller, Marvin Klinkenberg and William Miller. The children present at the funeral were Mrs. Minnie Klinkenberg, Fred Miller, of Farmersburg, Wm. Miller of Monona, Mrs. Louise Schmidt of St. Olaf and Mrs. Martha Faber of Ionia.

Not often do we have to bear so deep a grief as that we feel when we lay the loved form of our mother away in the bosom of earth, no matter how old she has grown, or what care she has been, we know then as we have never known before, the full measure of her love and sacrifice for us. To those sorrowing ones the consolation is offered that their loved one has gone to rest, and to the glory which is promised God’s faithful here on earth.

We join the many friends of the deceased in offering our heartfelt sympathy to all who are left to mourn this good mother.

[TRANSCRIBER’S NOTES: The surname was originally spelled Moeller, and her son Henry and his descendants retained that spelling. The surnames of three of her daughters are incorrectly printed in this obituary. The names should be Bertha Dickison (not Dickinson), Dora Frederick (not Frederic), and Anna Kahle (not Kohle). The correct spellings are found on the tombstones of all three, available at findagrave.com.]
