John Faber, Long Time Resident of St. Olaf, Passes
ST. OLAF: John Faber, son of Frederick and Kathrena Faber was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, on Oct. 16, 1855. His mother died in Germany. He came to Iowa in 1865 with his father, three brothers, and one sister. He worked as a farm hand until he was married, Jan. 15, 1878 to Isabella Halverson [sic], and continued farming until 1918 when they moved to St. Olaf where he lived until Feb. 4, 1940, when he went to the Robert Engelhardt home where he died on March 3, at the age of 84 years, five months and 20 days. His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 1922.
He leaves to mourn three children namely Louis Faber, Kanawha, Ia., Mattie Schoulte, Canistota, S. D., and Ella Engelhardt, St. Olaf. One brother, Ernie Faber, Marquette as well as seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, March 6 at the St. Olaf chapel with the Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating. Burial was made in the United Brethren cemetery.
