St. Olaf Man Falls In Creek; Drowns

Robert Hulverson, 73, St. Olaf, drowned in Pony Creek about a half mile from his rural home Tuesday, May 7. He and his sister, Marie, lived on a farm belonging to Leo Koehn.

Hulverson went to a pasture on the farm about 11 a.m. Tuesday to check on some cattle. Authorities believe the man tripped and lost his balance while trying to cross Pony Creek. He fell into an eight foot hole in the creek and drowned.

The body was found by Leo and William Koehn and Maurice Vigen of St. Olaf about 8 p.m., Tuesday. Authorities said that the man’s watch had stopped about 11:25 a.m., thus indicating the time of his death.

County Medical Examiner Dr. D. W. Pfeifer, McGregor, ruled the death as accidental.

The body was taken to the Witt Funeral Home in Elkader. Services will be held Friday, May 10, at 2 p.m., at the Norway Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the Norway cemetery.

Hulverson was a veteran of World War I. He lived on the family farm for 73 years. He is survived by one sister, Marie Hulverson.
