Irva W. (Irv) Chapman was born March 27, 1886 at Strawberry Point, the son of Charles and Rogene Webb Chapman. He passed away November 17, 1972 at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Cora Miller on February 1, 1911 at Strawberry Point. The couple lived in Strawberry Point until 1923 when they came to Edgewood and became owner and operator of Chapmans Hardware. Irv retired from the business in 1953 and devoted much of his time with his gardening and woodworking.. he was a lover of beautiful flowers.
Mr. Chapman was a member of the first Congregational church in Edgewood, a former mayor and school board director.
He is survived by his widow, Cora; two sons, Charles and Richard of Edgewood; one daughter, Mrs. Mike ( Elinor ) Yankey of Mason City; one sister, Mrs. Edna Davis of Edgewood; seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. he was preceded in death by his parents and a twin sister.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 20, 1972 at the First Congregational Church in Edgewood with Pastor Thomas Ellis officiationg. Dale Johnson sang, " In The Garden", accompanied by Mrs. Donald Woeste.
Casket bearers were grandsons, Terry, James, John and Jerry Chapman, Mike U. and Jon R. Yankey. Burial was in the Cass Township Cemetery at Strawberry Point. Appleton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
