Cam Smith Funeral Here This Afternoon

The funeral of Cam G. Smith of Des Moines will be held here this afternoon, all services to be held at the East Side cemetery.

Mr. Smith died at his home in Des Moines Tuesday morning and the body will be returned here today. He was a resident of this place about thirty years ago and is the brother-in-law of Mrs. C. H. Williamson and Miss Julia Heckmaster, both of Elkader.

CAMDEN G. SMITH

Camden G. Smith died at his home, 1354 Eighth street, Des Moines, Iowa, Tuesday, March 22, having been ill with pneumonia for only two days.

Deceased was the son of John and Mary Smith, born at Clark, Mercer county, Pa., Feb. 2, 1856. He came to Iowa when but a young man and was married to Anna Marie Heckmaster in Elkader, Dec. 16, 1878. To this union were born four children: Ralph E., who died in infancy; Samuel C., who was killed by bandits in his drug store at Omaha, Nebr., April 30, 1917; Elmira A., and Sarah Gayle.

On May 3, 1918, the beloved wife and mother died. On Jan. 10, 1930, Mr. Smith married Mrs. Nettie Gray, who with his two daughters, Mrs. John Harty and Mrs. Ray Hepner, survive him; also three brothers: Samuel C. of Los Angeles, Cal.; P. P., of Oil City, Pa.; John of Sharon City, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Bailey of Clarksville, Pa. Services were held at Dunn’s Funeral Home at Des Moines and interment at Elkader in East Side cemetery.

A buttermaker by trade, the deceased operated creameries at Garnavillo and Read, Iowa, and after moving to Des Moines he was employed as buttermaker for E. M. Ellingson and Schermerhorn and Shotwell Co. Mr. Smith was a member of Modern Woodmen, Odd Fellow and Rebekah lodges. He was a member of the Methodist church and will be remembered by his many friends as a kindly, conscientious Christian man, always willing to help a fellow man.

Pallbearers were Dr. H. D. Brown, Wm. Becker, Louis Hagensick, H. H. Diers, Henry Tewes and G. H. Wilke.

Mrs. Cam G. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. John Harty, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Hepner and daughter Betty, all of Des Moines, attended the funeral here of Cam G. Smith.
