George Heckmaster
George Heckmaster died in Mercy hospital at Oelwein at eleven o’clock, December 16th, after an illness of several months.
George Heckmaster was born June 21, 1873 here in Elkader, where he had always made his home. He had been in failing health for several months and became seriously ill December 1st. He was cared for at the home of his sister, Mrs. C. H. Williamson until December 13, when he was taken to the Mercy hospital at Oelwein for treatment by a specialist and where everything possible was done for him.
He is survived by four sisters and one brother. His cheerful disposition made for him many friends. His love for the great out-of-doors and God’s beautiful handiwork in nature; his life lived in fellowship with the same, made it easier for him to bear his last days of suffering, with a smile. He will be remembered as one with a good word and a good will toward all.
Funeral services were conducted at his late home December 19, the Rev. Albert S. Kilbourn officiating. He was laid to rest in the family lot in the East Side cemetery.
