Joseph A. Keppler
Funeral services were held Sept. 1 at St. Patrick Church in Monona at 9:30 a.m. for Joseph A. Keppler, who passed away at the University of Iowa Hospital at Iowa City on August 30 after several weeks of illness. Father Keppler and Father Heineman officiated.
Pallbearers were Don Bollman, Gilbert Rose, Ray Kottman, John Havlicek, Charley, Tom and James Lestina. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery.
Joseph A. Keppler was born the son of Joseph Anslem and Margaret Hilby at North Buena Vista, Iowa. At the age of 16 he and his older brother took up a homestead in the Dakotas. After a couple years they went to California where he took up barbering. Later they came to Monona where he was barbering almost 46 years.
He was united in marriage to Tillie Havlicek on January 15, 1926. There were four sons. One son was wounded while in the Navy and died a short time after being released from the Navy.
Mr. Keppler left to mourn his wife, and 3 sons, Joseph of California, Tom of Monona, & Eugene of Rochester, two sisters, one brother and several grandchildren.
