Elkader Register, Thur., 15 Nov. 1894.
On last Thursday, after a long illness followed by hemorrhage, occurred the death of Gottfried G. Bandow, an old and respected citizen of Elkader, at the advanced age of 72 years, 6 months and 1 day. He was born May 7, 1822, at Seehausen, in Altmark, Germany. Aug. 27, 1850, he was married to Miss Anna Sophia Schultze, and with his family came to Clayton County in 1865. After a short stay with his brother-in-law, F. Hencke, in McGregor, and with his brother Carl, who lived on a farm near the old "log tavern," he settled on a farm in Wagner twp., which he worked until a few years ago with the help of his two sons. He then gave the farm over to his son Gottfried and came to Elkader to rest.
The funeral was held Sunday in the East Side church, Rev. Seifert officiating, and the Gesangverein singing several very appropriate songs. Many friends and neighbors gathered to do their last honor to the departed. Besides his widow, he leaves two sons and one daughter. Two children died in their infancy in Germany.
