John Moore Little was born in Norwich, Vt., February 7th, 1836, and died at Farmersburg, Iowa, August 19th, 1916. He was the son of Dr. Samuel Little and Katherine Payne Little. He came with is parents and only sister, Mrs. R.L. Knight, to Iowa in 1855, coming by teams from Peoria, Ill. They settled on the farm in Farmersburg which has since then been the family home for more than sixty years.

In 1867 he was married to Lucinda Englert, who survives him, with his four children, viz: Mrs. Mina Dahlstrom, also Mrs. Belle Oelke, of Farmersburg, and Samuel J. and Kitty on the home place. He also leaves eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren, two nephews, Dr. H.L. Knight, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Dr. E.L. Knight, of Waukon, Iowa.

Those who have only known Mr. Little in recent years when his once vigorous faculties had become impaired by disease and the frailties incident to old age, do not know the real man. He was naturally of a friendly and social disposition, scrupulously fair in all his dealings, always anxious to do what was right toward others, a kind husband and indulgent parent, and a good neighbor and a true friend.

He was a natural mechanic, his work as a carpenter and builder being of the best, and even in his declining years he took pleasure in his workshop, tinkering up old things and making new ones, and nothing left his hands until it was as nearly perfect as possible. He was satisfied only with the neat work his brain and hands could produce. As a citizen he was well posted in regard to his duty, and always voted for those he considered the best men and for the best interests of the State and Nation.

His work is done; he rests from his labor.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, Rev. Jas. B. Bird officiating.

Masonic ceremonies at the grave were conducted by Dr. J.C. Ross. A large delegation from the Monona lodge were in attendance.
