Died, October 1st, 1889, Mary E. Beddow, wife of J.R. Beddow, of Updegraff, aged 53 years, 10 months and 8 days. Mrs. Beddow was born in Lo__ County, Ohio, and came to Clayton county when only nine years of age.
She was married to J.R. Beddow at West Union, Iowa, May 11th, 1857, or 32 years ago. Although she had been ailing for some time, and her death was daily expected, the new of her death created profound sorrow among all who knew her. Mrs. Beddow was a lady who was highly respected for her many virtues. She was of kindly disposition and possessed of those social qualities that made her beloved by all. She always took a leading part in all works of Christianity and charity. As a wife and mother she was a type of what good women should seek to be.
She leaves husband and two sons to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate wife and mother. To them the many friends extend their sympathy and condolence. The funeral services were held in the church at Updegraff, Rev. Hubbel, assisted by Rev. McNamee, officiating. A large concourse of friends and neighbors followed the remains to their last resting place.
