At her home at Clermont, Iowa, on August 30th, 1889, at about two o’clock a.m., occurred the death of Mrs. Mary McNamara, after a short sickness. Everything with loving hands could do was done for her, but to no avail and she passed peacefully away, surrounded by her family and old friends.

Mary Colliton was a native of Ireland, having been born in county Kilkerney, December 12th, 1816, and was consequently nearly 73 years of age at the time of her death.

February 20th 1836 she was married to John Duggan, and by him had eight children. June 29th, 1862, with their family they came to the United Sates, and located in Iowa, settling first in Read township, where her husband died October 10, 1863.

May 15th, 1868, she married Asa McNamara, and removed to Fayette county. On the 10th of January, 1884, Mr. McNamara died.

During her life she was known as a true woman, ready to lend a helping hand to those in distress, and was beloved by all who knew her, and her death will long be mourned. She leaves three daughters to sorrow for the death of a kind and loving mother. They are Sister Mary Alfred of Dearborn, Mich., Mrs. Daniel Flynn of Waukon, and Mrs. John Farrell of this township.

The funeral took place on Saturday at three o’clock p.m. and was largely attended, services being conducted by Rev. Father Hackett at the Catholic church, after which her remains were laid to their final rest in the Catholic cemetery, Clermont. Peace be to her ashes!

Elkader Weekly Register: September 5, 1889

Note: her 2nd husband Asa McNamara is buried in St. Peter’s Catholic cemetery, Clermont twp., Fayette co. She is buried in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery at Garnavillo, Clayton county with her 1st husband John Duggan.
