John M. White was born in South Hero, Vermont, Sept. 18, 1843. With his father's family he removed to Volga City, Iowa, in 1860.
He enlisted in Co. D, 21st Iowa Volunteers and saw three years of active service in the states of the southwest.
He was for many years a prominent business man of Volga City. May 9, 1877 he was united in marriage to Frances D. White, of Cohocton, N.Y. His home has been at Knowlton, Iowa, for the past five years. In that city he passed peacefully away December 11, 1902.
Mr. White was a kind, honorable, public spirited man. He leaves a loving wife, an affectionate mother, two brothers and a large circle of acquaintances to mourn his departure.

John White, formerly of Volga, died at his home at Knowlton, Wednesday. The funeral was held at that place Saturday.
W.P. White returned from Knowlton Tuesday where he had been to attend the J. White funeral.
