At his home in this city on Saturday, Nov. 5th at 2:20 o'clock p.m., occurred the death of George Wolf. Death came as a release from months of suffering from a complication of diseases caused by heart trouble.

George Wolf, son of Daniel Wolf and Elizabeth Lahm Wolf, was born in Hengatbach, Rhine Bavaria on Sept 17, 1844. He came to America with his parents in the spring of 1856, coming direct to Dubuque, Iowa. His mother died in 1859, his father in 1880.

At Dubuque he learned the trade of harness maker. During the Civil War he enlisted in Co E, 5th Iowa Cavalry on March 1st, 1864 and served his country until discharged at Nashville, Tenn., Aug. 11th, 1865. After being mustered out he returned to Dubuque and resumed work at his trade and on March 23rd, 1866, came to Elkader which has since been his home.

For ten years he was employed by Patrick Geraghty, afterwards going into business for himself which he continued until June of this year, 28 years.

On Sept. 17th, 1868, he was married to Elizabeth Taake. To them were born seven children, of whom Daniel, Hattie and Louis are dead. Those living are George C., Fred L., Henry M. and Oscar.

Besides his wife and sons he has living one brother and one sister who reside at Dubuque, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Geo. C. Wolf, and two grandsons.

He was a charter member of E. Boardman Post G.A.R. and Orchus Council of the Mystic Toilers.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational church on Monday at 2:00 p.m., Rev. T.J. Elwick officiating. The G.A.R. and Mystic Toilers escorted the body to the church and at the grave the veterans with the impressive ceremony of their order consigned their comrade to the grave.
