On Sunday morning last, April 21st, 1889, occurred the death of Johanna (Ryan) Gleason, wife of Daniel Gleason, Sr., of Elkader.
The deceased was born in county Tipperary, Ireland. She came to the United States in 1848, and in 1853 was married to Daniel Gleason, at Syracuse, N.Y., coming to Iowa with her husband in 1854. They located first in Dubuque, but about three years later they came to Elkader where they have continued to reside.
She leaves three grown up children, Daniel of Elkader, Timothy, who is out west, and Mrs. D.H. Liddy, of Monticello, together with an aged husband to mourn her death. Having lived here over thirty years and being of a social disposition, she had a large circle of acquaintances throughout the county, and her death will universally mourned by them.
The funeral took place on Tuesday morning form the Catholic church, Rev. Reilly officiating, and was very largely attended by friends and relatives. Her remains were laid to their final rest in the Catholic cemetery. May she rest in peace!
