MRS. RODENBERG IS LAID TO REST HERE ON SUNDAY
PIONEER WOMAN WAS NEARING 97TH BIRTHDAY AS DEATH OCCURRED THURSDAY.The community lost its most venerable pioneer last week when Mrs. William Rodenberg, Sr., passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Mororend, in Jefferson township. Mrs. Rodenberg was probably the oldest person in Clayton county, having celebrated her 96th birthday on October 21, 1932. She has been a resident of this community for over 82 years.
Mrs. Rodenberg, nee Anna Kaiser, was born in Germany and came to America when she was 14 years old. She settled in this section when the middlewest was still a wilderness, over run by wild animals and savage Indians, and lived here for more than four score years until last Thursday, when she again migrated to another shore.
On Sept. 15, 1855, she was united in marriage to William Rodenberg at Cassville, Wis. Her husband was a civil war veteran who preceded his wife in death on Nov. 24, 1913.
To this union were born 12 children. Two died in infancy and one daughter died at the age of 22 years. She is survived by her nine children: August and William, of Guttenberg; John, of Jefferson township; Mrs. Henry Friedlein, Guttenberg; Mrs. Henry Morarend, Jefferson township; Mrs. John Schorg, Spencer, S. Dak.; Mrs. Anna Henderson, West Prairie, Minn.; Mrs. Kate Ross, California, and Mrs. Lizzie Wills, Buffalo, N.Y.
Mrs. Rodenberg also leaves a 93 year old brother, Christian Kaiser, a civil war veteran, who lives near Osborne.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from St. John's Lutheran church, Rev. W.J.F. Adix officiated and burial was made in the city cemetery.
