Frank Liers, one of Clayton county's highly respected pioneer residents, passed away at his home in Clayton township on Friday, at the age of 79 years, his death being mostly due to old age.
Deceased was born in Germany, March 4, 1847, coming to America when 24 years of age and settling in Clayton county, Iowa, where the greater part of the remainder of his life was spent. He also resided at Dubuque for a time. He was united in marriage with Miss Caroline Venus.
Many years ago he was successfully engaged in the barber business at Elkader, and also successfully engaged in business at Clayton for a number of years. Of late years he has been residing on a farm in Clayton township.
Mr. Liers was an industrious and upright man, during his entire life, and was held in high regard by all who had the pleasure of making his acquaintance. He was a kind and true husband, father and friend and always ready with heart and hand to help those in need, which won for him many friends during life. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran church.
He is survived by his aged widow, three sons, Frank of Clayton township, Karl of Freeport, Ill., and Emil of Homer, Minn.; two daughters, the Misses Josephine and Louise Liers of Chicago, Illinois, and also one granddaughter and numerous other relatives and friends, by whom this good and true man will be sadly missed.
Funeral services were held at his late home in Clayton township on Sunday afternoon, Rev. K. Wm. Braun of Garnavillo officiating. Interment was made in the Clayton cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
