Elkport - Mrs. John Lewis, 85, one of the oldest residents of this community died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Willman, Saturday, July 26th.

Margaret Lewis, aged 85 years, 5 months and 8 days, was a daughter of John and Hannah Hyde. She was born February 18, 1845, in Green county, Pennsylvania. She came to Iowa with her parents in the year of 1850 and settled at Colesburg, Iowa. With her parents she resided her for a number of years.

In 1865 she was married to Brooks Morley. To this union three children were born, Ben F., of Guttenberg, Mrs. Hannah Marty of Dubuque, and a daughter Margaret who died at an early age. About ten years after their marriage, Mr. Morley died.

A few years later she was married to John Davidson. They were the parents of two children, Mrs. Ruth Willman and Henry C. Berger of Dubuque. Several years later Mr. Davidson died. She then went to live with her parents on Wayman creek in Elk township.

In March, 1880, she was married to John Lewis. They had one son, George Lewis, who is now living in Minnesota. Mrs. Lewis is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.

For many years Mrs. Lewis lived at Elkport and vicinity and was greatly beloved and respected. During the time that she has been at the home of her daughter, where she died, she had the best of care and all of her wants were carefully looked after.

The funeral services were held Monday, July 28, from the Wood M.E. church and burial was made in the Asbury cemetery. The Rev. Meyer officiated. The deceased leaves many friends to mourn the death of a kind and noble woman.
