Died in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Friday February 1, 1889, Henry J. Bierbaum, son of J. F. Bierbaum of Clayton county, Iowa, at the age of 26 years.

The deceased was a young man who had won for himself a high station in life. Of generous, noble disposition he was the idol of a host of admiring friends, who mourn this sudden departure from life.

Free from all selfish tendencies he was the pride of a happy household, upon which the gloom of sadness now rests. Henry had been suffering for several months from a spinal trouble, and went to a hospital in Indianapolis last July to receive treatment. The treatment he received there seemed to do him much good and his friends entertained hopes of his early recovery.

A few weeks since, a dispatch informed his parents that he had been attacked with typhoid fever. His father hurried to his bedside, and thus sweetened the last sad hours of life by his presence. His remains were forwarded to his home, where they arrived on Saturday evening, accompanied by the sorrowing parent.

The funeral occurred on Monday. The remains were interred in our cemetery in the presence of a large circle of sorrowing friends. Rev. Sommerlad conducted the impressive ceremony, and pronounced a eulogy of great beauty and impressiveness. Our sympathies are with the sorrowing parents.

Note: Buried in Garnavillo City Cemetery
