Ashes of Mrs. Georgia Rogers Returned To The Hansel Cemetery, Garber

VOLGA: Mrs. Georgia Bevans Rogers was born Nov. 16, 1857, at Garber and departed this life Feb. 20, 1933, at Hondo, Calif., having reached the aged of 75 years, three months and four days.

She was the daughter of Mary E. and John S. Bevans. Her father died when she was five years old. She made her home with her sister, Mrs. S. Baker. She received her education in Iowa. When 18 years old she went to Beulah, Kansas, to live with her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wolf.

On July 20, 1881, she was united in marriage to Peter W. Rogers at Sheridan, Kansas. To this union three children were born: Joseph Huston, Florence Pearl, and Bertha Clare, all of whom preceded her in death.

She was baptized by immersion and united with the Methodist church at an early age. She was a bright Bible student.

She leaves to mourn her loss one sister, Mrs. Lillian Sangston of Dubuque, Iowa; one brother, Charles A. Bevans of Randle, Wash.; one step-sister, Mrs. Sophroni [sic] Hansel of Garber, besides many nieces and nephews.

Most of her married life was spent at Beulah, Kans. On account of her delicate health they moved to Checotah, Okla., in 1900, thinking the warm climate would help her. On Nov. 1, 1914, her husband died, leaving her alone. She came to Volga the following May and made her home with her nieces, Mrs. Hallie Blake. Mrs. Blake had spent her junior and senior years of high school with her aunt. They were like mother and daughter.

In the year 1927, in September, Mrs. Rogers went to Phoenix, Ariz., for her health. She remained there for a few months and from there went to California.

The remains were cremated in California and sent on for burial in the Hansel cemetery near Garber.
