Clayton County Register, Wed., 1 Nov. 1939.
St. Olaf - Torkel Reierson was born March 7, 1851 in Nummedal, Norway. His father's name was Reier Torkelson. His mother's maiden name was Ulvild Halvorson. Last Friday morning Torkel Reierson arose as usual and a short time thereafter he became ill and died. Thus even though Mr. Reierson had reached the age of 88 years, 7 months and 20 days and even though he had been in ill health this past summer, death nevertheless came unexpectedly. Mr. Reierson was baptized in the Lutheran church in Norway and was confirmed in the Clermont church.
When Mr. Reierson was twelve years old he came to America and to this community. Before buying the farm on which he afterwards resided until his death, he worked for the farmers of this community.
June 6, 1884, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Neilson Nesteby. In 1934 their friends and neighbors of the Norway church gathered at their home and celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary, together with Mr. and Mrs. Rierson and their five children.
He leaves to mourn his departure, three daughters, Mrs. Oscar Olson (Luana) of St. Olaf, Iowa; Mrs. Emil Johnson (Tillie) of St. Olaf, Iowa; Mrs. Art Ereager (Mabel) of Kenyon, Minnesota, two sons, Ray and Henry of St. Olaf, Iowa; six grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Gunderson and Mrs. Christine Mullin and many relatives and friends.
